Taka Dhilanga features three renowned artists onstage, bringing together the vocabulary of Odissi and Kathak dance with the sounds of the voice, tabla, and world percussion, to create an exciting dialogue of sound and movement. A new collaboration by internationally acclaimed artists from Canada, Enakshi Sinha, Sudeshna Maulik and Shawn Mativetsky, Taka Dhilanga combines solo, duo, and trio items, exploring the different possibilities of the ensemble. The stage will be set with diverse percussion instruments, played by multidimensional percussionist Shawn Mativetsky, whose dynamic drumming creates an evocative rhythmic soundscape, animating the beautifully virtuosic dancing of Enakshi Sinha and Sudeshna Maulik. Poetic rhythmic recitations, called bol, create an engaging and meaningful exchange between the artists, and with the audience. Taka Dhilanga's new exploration of sound, space, and movement, uniting dance and live music, makes this stage production truly come alive.
